Hippo Layering Project

Hippo


I introduced this Hippo project to my Kindergartners. They loved it!
Of course kinder kiddos love just about anything when it comes to creating art and doodling with crafts.
This was our 1st intro to art. Thanks to Pikaland for the idea:). Who knew yellow and blue made green. My Kinders didn't. That alone made their day!
Not knowing what their scissor skills would be, I pre-cut all the small pieces to the Hippo. I then made templates of the hippo body, head and mouth for the kids to trace. Next I had them place the pieces where they would go. Then start gluing.

We added the details
and finished with Mod podge gloss from bottom to top of water line.


This Hippo above is from a 1st grader.
She used her layering and foreground/background skills well. Notice the fish.
I love the the music notes!

Cardboard Color Wheels

Isn't cardboard great!
Here is one of my new projects to introduce primary and secondary colors. I cut out 8" circles out of cardboard. Then used acrylic paint to paint color wheel. I will have the students mix their own secondary colors. I thought it would be fun to find household items to glue on the wheel. Adds a little more crafty touch. Now if I could just find something sparkly, I feel it would be complete! I hope the little Kiddo's have fun with this. I'll let you know how it goes. Susan

Summer slumber is over!

I'm Back! And the creative juices are flowing. I'm looking foreword to getting my art classes started! My first day is Tues. the 19th. I have so many new projects to try this year. Have you checked out "Pinterest" I have been bitten and have a bad case of the "Pinterest Bug"! check out my Pinterest site. Pinterestsusanb60. But caution.. the bug might bite you too.

Summer Art Camp Classes
4th and 5th Graders

I experimented with this project and found it to be lots of fun. so,
I introduced it to a small summer art class.

Drawing with ink after project is dry.

Stamping bird with ink. Then we used Mod Podge to seal and finish.

After layering News paper, craft paper and adding paint,
I let the kids experiment with a stencil.
Then let project dry over night.

After project is dry, we are ready to draw a bird cage.
