Maple Leaf Prints

Maple Leaf Print topped with Glitter

Elementary grades

I love this project. So simple and instant gratification!
My Pre-k thru 3rd. did this project.
I picked large maple leaves from my back yard. The kids used acrylic paints to paint the back side of the leaf.

Great project to talk about colors of fall. depending on the grade level, kids can use colors straight from the bottle of paint or mix fall colors them selves.
Have the kids paint the leaves different fall colors, representing the changing colors in the leaves.

Place leaf paint side down on a black piece of paper,
carefully pressing with a rag to insure a good transfer.

Now you need to work quickly before paints starts to dry. Sprinkle glitter.
I used fall color glitters. Green, red, purple, and gold.

What a great result. So much more impressive in person!

Textured Pumpkin

Textured Pumpkins
By Pre-Kinder-kids

Above is my teacher sample.
Paper texture project.
My Pre-K class learned about texture as we created a happy pumpkin complete with mouse!

would have made a great mask.

As we applied leaves and layered paper,
we talked about what is texture?

Happy Halloween

Halloween owl

Halloween Owls
By Kinder Kiddo's

Above is my teacher sample.
Thank you to the original unknown person who created this idea. I saw it on pinterest!

We started with black paper. I cut large templates for the moon.
The students traced the inside of a circle template. Then used blue chalk pastels to smudge and blend around the outside of the traced circle.
Creating a blue night haze around the full moon.

Next we used our circle templates to sponge paint the white moon.
reminding the students to let a little black show through.

I had the children practice painting tree limbs,
before they painted on their piece of art. We used bamboo brushes.

Last ...place an owl in the middle of the moon with big white eyes.
I think they all did a fantastic job.
Tree limbs are very hard to paint by small budding artist!!

Van Gogh's Sunflowers K.thru 2nd

Van Gogh's sunflowers by
Kinder kiddos, 1st and 2nd grade.

We used crayons and watercolors to complete our sunflower project.

Above
Perhaps this is what Van Gogh's work would have looked like if he used daisies.

1st grade
I love this one. He decided to paint a glass vase version.

Van Gogh's Sunflower by Pre K.

Van Gogh's Sunflowers.
By my Pre-K. Class

A simple paper project
And a little help from my scissors...
We made this project from painted scrap paper and scrapbook paper.
I introduced the layering technique.

I shared a picture of Van Gogh and a poster of his sunflower painting.
Keep in mind a few can barley write their name.
I think they did a fantastic Job.

I love the placement of leaves and layered petals.
Great Job Loyd!

Hippo Layering Project

Hippo

I introduced this Hippo project to my Kindergartners. They loved it!
Of course kinder kiddos love just about anything when it comes to creating art and doodling with crafts.
This was our 1st intro to art. Thanks to Pikaland for the idea:). Who knew yellow and blue made green. My Kinders didn't. That alone made their day!
Not knowing what their scissor skills would be, I pre-cut all the small pieces to the Hippo. I then made templates of the hippo body, head and mouth for the kids to trace. Next I had them place the pieces where they would go. Then start gluing.

We added the details
and finished with Mod podge gloss from bottom to top of water line.

This Hippo above is from a 1st grader.
She used her layering and foreground/background skills well. Notice the fish.
I love the the music notes!

Cardboard Color Wheels

Isn't cardboard great!
Here is one of my new projects to introduce primary and secondary colors. I cut out 8" circles out of cardboard. Then used acrylic paint to paint color wheel. I will have the students mix their own secondary colors. I thought it would be fun to find household items to glue on the wheel. Adds a little more crafty touch. Now if I could just find something sparkly, I feel it would be complete! I hope the little Kiddo's have fun with this. I'll let you know how it goes. Susan

I introduced it to a small summer art class.

Vanessa Spencer was my inspiration for this project.
click on Vanessa's highlighted name and watch her video.

Drawing with ink after project is dry.

Stamping bird with ink. Then we used Mod Podge to seal and finish.

After layering News paper, craft paper and adding paint,
I let the kids experiment with a stencil.
Then let project dry over night.

After project is dry, we are ready to draw a bird cage.
see above pictures!

Caged Song Bird

Caged Song Bird
Mixed Media

Well.. School is out and I thought I would try my hand at a
mixed media art piece I saw in Somerset magazine months ago.
It may look familiar to some of you.
Something about the art piece inspired me..

Using newspaper, and scraps I had on hand,
I experimented with the back ground .
I found a brand new stencil I had not used yet!! How could this be?

I printed a music sheet and cut it down to fit in the center of my project.
I tried to find a song about a bird.
With words on the sheet of music. It took to long....
so I used a song from the Beatles.

I finished!! On to the next project.

Abstract Katz

WATER COLOR
ABSTRACT KATZ
kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade

The King and Queen of cats!

Above-Teacher Sample

The students first sketched their pictures with pencil.
Then applied pure water color paints to paint their masterpiece.
This is a real fun project. I find the kids always enjoy anything to do with animals.
This project can be used for any grade level... love those kind of projects!

Great Imagination!!
Love the helicopter cat in this one.
Can you find the two invisible cats above? Hint: Only eyes and mouth show!

Like a graceful vase,
a cat, even when motionless,
Seems to flow. - George F. Will

When prints dried, cats where then out lined in Black marker.

The Smallest feline is a masterpiece. -
Leonardo da Vinci

Students then glued black paper to frame Masterpieces!
